Urgent Appeal for Relief in Odisha for Cyclone Fani affected people.
Bharat Mata ki Jai !
Friends, as you are aware an Extremely Severe Cyclonic Storm Fani, the strongest tropical cyclone to strike the Indian state of Odisha since 2013, struck India on 5th May 2019. As of 11 May 2019, 68 people are known to have been killed by Fani, while the state government of Odisha evacuated over 1.2 million residents from vulnerable coastal areas and moved them to higher ground and into cyclone shelters built a few miles inland. The authorities deployed around a thousand emergency workers and 43,000 volunteers in these efforts. The cyclone adversely affected electricity supply and telecommunication in several coastal areas of Odisha, and to a lesser extent, of West Bengal. Puri and Khordha district in Odisha were the worst hit.
The most severely hit are the poor and the poorest, who live in huts, shanty settlements and on the streets without proper documentation. Most of them have lost their belongings and whatever they have purchased for their needs. While we appreciate government efforts in evacuating people and saving lives, the support is not adequate. When people have returned to their original place, their houses have been severely damaged or destroyed. Household needs like utensils, daily needs, clothes, have been missing or damaged, which they had bought and purchased after a lot of hard work and savings.
Our appeal to you is to help the poor and the poorest in these crucial times and prove our love for the nation and the people of this nation. Nationalism is not limited to slogans and fighting terror on the border but also caring for the people of this nation in times of crisis
